Rajasulochana was born as Pilliarchetty Bhakthavatsalam Naidu Rajeevalochana on August 15, 1935, in Bezawada (now Vijayawada), Andhra Pradesh, India. Her father, Bhakthavatsalam Naidu, worked with the Indian Railways and was transferred to Madras (now Chennai) as the Personal Assistant to the General Manager of M&SM Railway. During her schooling, a clerical error recorded her name as “Rajasulochana,” a name that she would carry throughout her illustrious career.

Passion for Dance
From a young age, Rajasulochana exhibited a profound interest in Indian classical dance. She trained under several renowned gurus, including Lalithamma, K. N. Dhandayuthapani Pillai, Acharyulu, Vempati Chinna Satyam, Krishnakumar, Vishnu Vysarkar, and Kalamandalam Madhavan. Her dedication to the art form laid a strong foundation for her future endeavors in cinema.
Entry into Cinema
Rajasulochana’s cinematic journey began in 1953 when Kannada stage and screen maestro H. L. N. Simha offered her a role in the film Gunasagari, produced by Gubbi Veeranna.
